Abstract

Research undertaken to provide evidence of extraction of nanocellulose from filter paper using eutectic solvents. Nanoparticles extracted along with microparticles indicating lack of energy needed in extraction. Further research conducted included a DOE using commercial nanocellulose on the application of the excipient as a thickener in nasal sprays. Parameters percentage concentration, blending speed and blending time were chosen with outputs viscosity, spray area and drip length analysed using regression to highlight significant parameters. Research shows shear thinning ability of nanocellulose has potential to be used as thickener in nasal spray formulations however further tests are needed to confirm this hypothesis.
