SURE Network COVID-19 Undergraduate Research Project Support Workshop

 19th November 2020 from 12:00 – 4:15 PM

With Evidence Synthesis Ireland (ESI)

In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, The SURE Network Curriculum Committee established the SURE Network COVID-19 response team in April 2020. Our core objective was to support our colleagues in STEM as they transitioned from supervising final year ‘wet lab’ undergraduate research projects to ‘dry’ lab projects, in response to restricted laboratory access nationwide. We therefore ran virtual event in conjunction with Evidence Synthesis Ireland (ESI) in November 2020.

ESI  delivered a 1 hour seminar on conducting systematic reviews in preclinical studies from 12 – 1PM. Resources provided by the ESI may be found here.

The COVID-19 response team delivered four seminars/workshops through Microsoft teams on the set-up of core alternative project types ranging from research grant style projects to qualitative and survey-based research, before closing with a joint seminar delivered by UK HEA fellows Dr. David Lewis (University of Leeds) and Dr. Gan Shamer (Bath University) on community and education-based research projects.

The details and biographies of each of our guest speakers may be found in the November 2020 Workshop Flyer.  Some Seminar recordings and related resources are available here

Kind Regards

Dr. Julie Dunne (TUDublin) and Dr. Therese Montgomery (AIT), co-chairs of the SURE Network COVID-19 response team.
