Making Buildings Smarter and More Sustainable with AI

My research is significant because it can directly support Ireland’s sustainability and climate goals. Occupancy data can be used to enable buildings to self-manage heating and lighting, cutting wasted energy and reducing carbon emissions. Analysing occupancy patterns will also allow for smarter space management and ensure that resources are used more efficiently. This work additionally has the potential to inform policy on sustainable building practices, support green public procurement, and contribute to data-driven sustainability. Overall, the project can help position Ireland to be a leader in energy sustainability.
