Ireland’s Energy Transition: Unlocking the Potential of Offshore Renewables

As Ireland targets 80% renewable electricity by 2030, offshore floating solar (FPV) offers a vital solution to land limitations and planning constraints affecting onshore renewable energy. This research addresses a key gap in understanding how wind and wave forces impact the performance and stability of FPV systems. By generating new experimental data, it supports the safe, efficient design of offshore infrastructure. The findings can inform marine spatial planning, shape future energy policy, and reduce investment risk. Unlocking the potential of offshore solar will help advance Ireland’s climate targets, enhance energy security, and build a more resilient and sustainable energy system
