As the NRL has only recently come into effect, very few studies have reviewed its background, current status, and future in a single study. My research aims to support policymakers in Ireland by helping them to define their own priorities ahead of submitting the National Plan to the EU in September 2026. I hope that as part of the drafting process, they can advocate for the law to farmers and industry leaders and emphasise the regulation’s economic and social benefits, as well as understand the practical issues of the law and how these can be overcome on a national level.
