Voices Matter: Tackling Accentism in Ireland. A study addressing Accent-Based Discrimination Awareness in Education

This research is significant because it identifies accentism as a hidden but powerful
form of discrimination that reinforces inequality in education and employment. By
highlighting the issue within primary schools, we aim to create long-term cultural
and legislative change that values every Irish voice equally. Policy impact could
include amending equality law to protect against accent bias, updating national anti-bullying frameworks, and strengthening teacher training. These steps would reduce
prejudice, improve social mobility, and ensure that no child or worker is
disadvantaged because of how they speak.
