About the 2025 Irish Posters in Parliament, Póstaeir san Oireachtas (PsO) event

PsO saw 30 students from 14 Higher Education Institutions around Ireland present their undergraduate research in poster format to approximately one third of the parliamentary members in  Leinster House (the Irish parliament) Dublin on the 12th Nov 2025.

Speakers at the event included:

  • PsO champion Minister James Lawless, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science
  • PsO sponsor TD, Erin McGreehan, Cathaoirleach of the Committee on Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
  • PsO champion and ATU president Dr. Orla Flynn
  • PsO national project lead Dr. Therese Montgomery, ATU

Póstaeir san Oireachtas (PsO) connected undergraduate researchers directly with political decision and policy makers, uniting researchers from different disciplines under the theme Research for Change. Through this project we wished to empower students to advocate for effective societal change, enhancing political awareness and civic engagement behaviours, whilst providing guidance on how to disseminate research findings for maximum impact. Research presented at the event was subsequently presented in parliamentary chambers and has led to a number of follow on initiatives.  For a full report of the event, all award photos and student testimonials please see our sister Poster in Brussels website

About PsO 2025

What: PsO is an undergraduate research posters showcase, highlighting excellence in undergraduate research generated by students across the whole Island of Ireland. Following a competitive nomination and detailed selection process, 30 students from 14 Higher Education Institutes (HEI) around Ireland were chosen to showcase their undergraduate research directly to politicians and policy makers in Ireland’s parliamentary buildings. PsO participants had their posters displayed in the Oireachtas from Monday the 10th November to Friday the 14th November. To find out more about the exciting research on display please check out our dedicated PsO participant page

When and where: PsO took place in the heart of the Irish Parliamentary buildings, The Oireachtas in Leinster House Dublin on Wednesday the 12th Nov from 5-7pm. The timing of the event was carefully scheduled to coincide with the Dáil vote and committee meetings to ensure maximum accessibility to politicians, TDs and ministers from all over Ireland.

Who: PsO was championed by Minister James Lawless, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and sponsored by TD Erin McGreehan, Cathaoirleach of the Committee on Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. Both Minster Lawless and Deputy McGreehan spoke at the event having reviewed the excellent standard of innovative undergraduate research on display. PsO was expertly supported by retired Minister and public engagement expert, Mr. Denis Naughten, the official PsO parliamentary & government engagement advisor.

How: Each Higher Education Institute (HEI) across the island of Ireland was invited to nominate up to five potential candidates from across all disciplines and fields of study. Students were nominated who demonstrated significant excellence in original undergraduate research and whose research has the potential for tangible socioeconomic, technological, health, sustainability or environmental impact in the future. Following their nomination in June 2025, PsO participants received dedicated training and one on one feedback through a comprehensive training programme developed and delivered by the national PsO committee in conjunction with Mr.  Denis Naughten, the PsO parliamentary & government engagement advisor.  Participants also received pitch training in research dissemination prior to the event and had their research published in a special PsO edition of SURE-J, Ireland’s undergraduate research journal (ISSN 2990-8167).
