My research bridges the gap between sustainability and the practical performance of widely used packaging materials, without the need to re-infrastructure existing production systems. The demonstration of the effects of biodegradable additives allows the enhancement of the environmental profile of PET without compromising its mechanical and thermal integrity. This study opens pathways for industries to adopt more circular material solutions, thus further supporting future policy changes and encouraging the use of smart additives in plastic manufacturing. This in turn, could help reduce our overall plastic waste while maintaining material efficiency in critical applications.
